The appointment by Senate Minority Leader Hugh Scott adds seven Republicans and eight Democrats. Three die in Searsburg Route 9 head on oil truck crash
A 1:30 p.m. crash on Searsburg Mountain Route 9 left three men dead. Richard A. Zinn 23 of Sunderland and Edward L. Scott 51 of East Schodack N.Y. died en route at Putnam Memorial Hospital. Ralph F. Lasher of Schenectady N.Y. died at the scene. The Merrill Trucking Co tanker carried 6000 gallons of No 4 industrial fuel oil, spilling along the road and seeping into a nearby stream. The crash occurred when the downhill Merrill truck lost brakes and collided with the Tobin Meat trailer truck heading uphill. The scene showed extensive debris, oil slicks, and damaged guardrails.
