Natural Resources Agency Halts Plans for Howe Pond
The Interagency Committee on Natural Resources postponed action on buying 350 acres at Howe Pond in Readsboro for 43750. The land would protect existing property but no recreational development is allowed as the pond supplies Readsboro. Environment official notes water is unsafe for drinking without treatment and swimming or boating violates state laws. Gov. Davis suggests tabling until Readsboro officials can be consulted. Airport land acquisitions in Springfield and Swanton approved for expansion under the regional system. 4-H notes from West Arlington State Day include participants and a strawberry festival theme. Lions Club hears about local drug issues from the State Dept. of Public Safety.
