New Site Set For Landfill In Bennington
Bennington town voters may approve a new landfill site off the north side of Houghton Lane on land owned by Mrs Alfred Harbour. The landfill committee says a survey and 2000 dollar engineer fee are needed for a long term lease of 2800 dollars yearly and about 10000 dollars to prepare the site, with the Kocher Drive dump to close in a month or two.

Arlington Crash Kills Youth in Rail Truck Collision
A Shaftsbury youth died when a William E. Dailey dump truck collided with a Vermont Railway train at a grade crossing on Warm Brook Road Arlington. The southbound train carried VDD Commissioner Robert M. Wilson and others. several officials escaped injury. Thompson, 19, was pronounced dead after last rites were performed. Funeral arrangements and tributes followed as investigators probed the crash near U.S. 7 and Knapp’s Bald Mt Farm.

Three Survive One Killed In Cargo Plane Crash
A C54 Air Force four engine cargo plane with one engine on fire crashed while attempting to land at Hanscom Field, Mass. Three men survived and one was killed. Survivors included two treated at Hanscom Field and one at Emerson Hospital before transfer to Chelsea Naval Hospital. Wreckage spread over a wide area near Route 2A and Old Bedford Road in Lincoln. The plane originated from Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. and went down near Concord line about 25 miles northwest of Boston.
