Dissidents Vladimir and Yelena Solovyov challenge Soviet silence
Vladimir Solovyov and wife Yelena Klepikova, both once favored literary critics, have broken with Soviet censorship and formed a Moscow press agency to publish objective commentary. They seek emigration with their 12-year-old son after publishability collapsed and expulsion from unions. Their family history reveals wartime fear and purges shaping their resolve. Their agency first reported dismissals of Leningrad editors and a writers’ meeting where dissidents were denounced, amid taxi fare boycotts and state pressure. They acknowledge KGB risks yet press on to reveal private life and public hypocrisy in Soviet society.
