Opponents Tell Dickey Lincoln Plan Would Not Cut Power Costs
Albert Cree of Rutland Vermont led opposed testimony before a Senate subcommittee arguing the Dickey Lincoln hydro project would not lower New England electricity costs even if output were free. He cited a Boston firm study valuing Dickey at 339 million dollars and warned 1980 capacity would barely meet regional needs while private utilities push a larger nuclear expansion. Muskie countered that Dickey would be self financing and that New England faces the nation's highest power costs, urging action to develop regional resources.
