The Mt Anthony Union High School board announces a $600,000 official budget for a new wing adding twenty classrooms. The vote marks formal approval of the expansion project and outlines project scope and funding.
The union school board tabled for two weeks a new rental price set by the parochial school board for Mt. Anthony Mt. Anthony Union School District considers BCHS rental at $47,000 including heat and light, up from $25,000. The Catholic board asked $54,000. A May 25 reevaluation decision follows. possible Grades 7-9 use of the Bendix building is among alternatives. Bond plans of $600,000 for a school addition are also described, with cost estimates and tax-rate considerations amid ongoing rental debates.
About 100 Bennington residents unanimously approved two special articles at a town meeting. The water line to Bennington Flats will be funded mainly by the flood control fund, with the town and village water departments contributing. The senior citizens center will be financed by up to 1000 for a federal matching grant.

Deputy Education Commissioner Daniel O Connor says only 11 of Vermonts 86 high schools meet the new minimum standards for secondary schools set to take effect July 1. He notes 21 more will be approved by then and that about 25 schools may receive one year waivers, including 17 amid bond votes and eight planning additions or corrective steps.
In Jackson Mississippi, a Black civil rights worker named Ben Brown died from head and back injuries after rioters attacked police barricades near Jackson State College. National Guardsmen and police returned fire as clashes erupted Wednesday night and again Thursday, with conflicts centering on Lynch Street. Brown, a member of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, was reported to have been among the attackers though witnesses dispute his involvement.
In the Japan Sea, two Soviet destroyers collided with the U S Walker during an antisubmarine exercise. A Soviet ship tore loose a whaleboat and a six inch hole appeared in the Walker’s bow. U S officials probe Moscow talks and seek explanations amid repeated high seas encounters.

About 100 tons of rock broke away from Prospect Point near the American Falls and fell into the Niagara River gorge. No injuries reported though two souvenir-stand workers were distressed. The lip fell 15 to 20 feet. break ran about 30 feet long and 35 to 40 feet deep. Police closed the observation area. officials cite days of rain as weakening the rock. This marks the fourth slide since January 17, 1931.
