Woman Loftus leads first female squadron commander in airlift
Mary Loftus, 24, who recently became commander of the Headquarters Squadron, 61st Military Airlift Support Wing at Hickam AFB, aims for a general’s stars. The Penn State graduate rose from newspaper copy girl to protocol officer, earning $860 monthly, with hopes of politics and marriage ahead. In California, the Senate approved a bill repealing the post prohibition ban on women bartenders, arguing for equal dress and service standards.
