In-state enrollment drop concerns at UVM officials
University of Vermont officials warn about declining Vermont applications while out-of-state inquiries rise. 1,620 Vermonters applied for next fall, down from 1,709 last year, as out-of-state applications climb to 7,027 from 6,609. Director Richard Steele cites rising tuition as pricing Vermonters out of college and notes plans to admit about 850 Vermonters next fall and roughly 1,000 out-of-state places, with transfers possible. Tuition likely to rise 7 to 11 percent next year to balance inflation and funding.
