Sarelas is Bennington new town manager after delay
Louis C. Sarelas 62 will lead Bennington as town manager after a six month delay in filling the post. The Claremont NH outgoing city manager was chosen by five of six selectmen with one abstention in an executive session. Sarelas will earn 20000 dollars annually plus use of a town car, slightly more than the rejected Garland offer and less than the Maine rival candidate. He plans to move his family to Bennington within three weeks and focus on sewer, water line extensions, recreation facilities, and the landfill.

Ford orders payoff probe of U.S. firms
President Ford creates a Cabinet level task force led by Commerce Secretary Elliott Richardson to study foreign payoffs by American corporations. The group will report by December 31 and include SEC participation. Current law does not ban such payments domestically, but deductions for them abroad and false statements to agencies could violate U.S. law.
