Salmon restoration eyed for Connecticut River runs
About 47,000 two year old Atlantic salmon were moved by truck from a Bethel federal hatchery to Massachusetts and Connecticut as part of a cooperative program to restore anadromous fish to the Connecticut River. The effort involves Vermont New Hampshire Connecticut and Massachusetts with a planned half million smolts released annually into the White River and fishways planned to extend upstream reach. Carlin tags will identify each tagged fish and guide growth data for the restoration program. Federal coordinator George Divine leads the effort with hopes of historical spawning migrations resumed.
