Secret prisoner talks yield three North Vietnamese seamen return
UPI reports in Saigon that after secret talks between American embassy officials and North Vietnamese representatives, three captured North Vietnamese seamen were released and flown to Hanoi via Vientiane. The men spoke of mistreatment but officials said they were treated correctly. The move followed Hanoi freeing three American airmen on Feb. 16 and aimed to broaden exchanges.

Hoff to Name Eugene V. Clark to Vermont House
Gov. Philip H. Hoff plans to appoint Eugene V. Clark to the Bennington seat in the Vermont House next week to fill the vacancy created by H. James Wallace. Both Wallace and Clark are Republicans. Wallace left the legislature to join the Vermont Highway Board, in keeping with the governor’s policy to avoid conflicts of interest. Clark, an attorney, was a 1962 Vermont Senate member and Bennington municipal judge from 1959 to 1962, born in Cleveland and educated at Harvard College, Navy service, and Cornell Law School before settling in Bennington in 1948.

Fire destroys Boston's historic First Church in blaze
A general alarm fire at 2:17 a.m. destroyed the First Church in Boston, a Unitarian Universalist parish founded in 1630, and heavily damaged six surrounding buildings. Eighty seven people were homeless, with total damage over 2 million dollars. No serious injuries reported. Fire spread from 64 Berkley Street to nearby apartments, prompting Red Cross aid.
