Vermont ski lift safety patrols ensure riders’ safety
In Vermont two passenger tramway technicians, including Fred Harvey in the south, enforce strict lift safety under Title 31 Vermont statutes. Harvey inspects signs, brakes, cable anchorage, bullwheels, grounding, drive trains, counterweights, and lighting, plus investigates accidents and federal land areas with help from the U.S. Forestry Service. Operators often resist corrections, but inspections remain thorough for a system with more than 200 lifts and 465000 feet of line.

Shaftsbury Fire Company marks 40 years of service
Shaftsbury firemen celebrated a 40th anniversary with a dinner for over 100 members and guests. Engraved gold watches honored Fred Stacy and Bob Booth for 40 years of service, and Robert Montgomery for 25 years before retirement. The history traced to 1927 with a 1931 formal organization date and a 1954 move to a new East Street firehouse.
