Hoffa Parole Scheme Rejected as Far Fetched Intermediaries Sought Bribe

The Justice Department revealed that several intermediaries worked to solicit up to 1 million dollars from imprisoned Teamster leader Jimmy Hoffa to influence Senator John L. McClellan to seek Hoffa's parole. The plan never contacted McClellan, who denied any approach and opposed release. FBI and DOJ noted no laws were broken and no arrests planned. Hoffa remains imprisoned at Lewisburg, with no parole recommendations issued.

Oakes elected Vermont Bar president backs Legal Aid

Two Die in Canandaigua Inn Fire

A fire at the Inn in Canandaigua New York killed two people and left five missing as over 100 firefighters battled the four story blaze that began on the third floor around 1 a.m. Twelve residents were treated for minor injuries at F F Thompson Hospital while some occupants escaped or were helped down ladders. Investigators noted the fourth floor burned away and collapsed into the floor below in the historic 1893 brick hotel.
