Ben-Mont finances unravel as state backs high risk loans
The Ben-Mont saga shows Dow Chemical selling to Wrap-Tures Gift Wrap in 1965 with BCIC backing a $2.34 million loan and VIBA guarantees. Through 1967 Exeter Corp stepped in, then Exeter moved to full control in 1969, but by 1970 default loomed with employment up only modestly and lenders wary as appraisals and related transfers raised questions about collateral and book value.
