Vermont becomes first continental state to outlaw roadside advertising with a July 1 1969 phaseout for off premise signs and a test area in Windham and Windsor counties after August 31 this year. Gov Hoff expected to sign. Hawaii already bans billboards.
Bennington School District board met Wednesday night and blasted area legislators for not pushing a retroactive state aid bill after Catholic High School closed and 350 BCHS students moved to Mt. Anthony Union. The Miller bill would share costs but not reimburse Bennington for the sudden enrollment increase.
Israeli forces crossed into Jordan in a punitive operation firing across the cease fire line.Tanks and troops killed 150 Arab terrorists and damaged or captured Jordanian armor. Losses cited include 15 killed and 70 wounded for Israel while Jordan and Egypt reported heavy fighting and calls for pan Arab action.
