Bennington proposes zoning changes to guide growth and housing

The plan revises zoning to limit RC district uses to retail and service establishments and sit down restaurants, adds an RC zone west of Old Bennington along Route 9, expands higher density MR-6 in the Desert area, and rezones RR-40 to RR-40 with PUD provisions. It also tightens residential subdivision rules, creates flood plain zones, and promotes clustered housing with common water systems to preserve vistas as Bennington plans for 20 000 to 25 000 residents by century end.

Hearing Set on 14 Percent Green Mountain Rate Hike

A hearing began in Montpelier on Green Mountain Power Corp. request for a 14 percent rate increase. Public opposition is expected as the Public Service Board had ordered a 34.2 percent rise and allowed cost-based updates for 1974. Attorneys for the public oppose further raises while the utility argues some customers would see relief if the higher request is approved.
