Thumbs up for fire truck and sidwalk decision at village meeting
North Bennington voters approved buying a new fire truck and overturned a plan for a Water Street sidewalk. About 50 residents crowded the stormy meeting, with a moderator chosen in the absence of Lawrence Powers. The village faces a $4,600 delinquent Economy Graphics tax and $20,000 in school taxes, impacting a $53,000 budget and tax rate timing. Voters also funded library, clerk, auditors, trustees, and the Sage City Symphony, while delaying the sidewalk project and reallocating funds to the fire truck fund. The fire department will seek a replacement pumper with a ceiling of $45,000, supported by a $38,000 fund before delivery in six months to a year.
