Science gains for Black students in the South highlights desegregation
A National Assessment report shows nine year old Black students in the Southeast improved in science from 1969 to 1973 while similar gains were not seen nationwide. Whites in the region also fared better in some ages though overall declines persisted elsewhere. The study credits desegregation and integrated schools for improved Black performance and notes caution in attributing outcomes to race alone.

Soldiers dispute LBJ visit to Fort Bragg story
Five 82nd Airborne soldiers contradict Armed Forces Journal claim that Lyndon Johnson chose Feb 17 1968 to greet troops at Fort Bragg before deployment to Vietnam. They say they shook hands with LBJ and immediately flew to Chu Lai, while Journal maintains most in that plane did not go to Vietnam.
