Ivory-billed woodpecker hunt halts SC timbering
South Carolina officials paused timber harvesting in a 10 000 acre Santee Swamp area after Audubon Society reports and a taped mating call suggested the ivory billed woodpecker may still exist. The pause follows an $800 000 contract to clear trees and comes amid environmental opposition led by State Rep Alex Sanders and Audubon official Robert Manns.
