Kennedy Reconsiders 1968 Run Amid McCarthy Clash
Kennedy signals possible entry or continued ambiguity in the Democratic race as McCarthy vows to stay in the primaries and attack on issues. The scene shifts from Capitol rooms to Wisconsin campaign stops while Johnson administration priorities and party chairs show tepid enthusiasm for Kennedy. UPI survey finds little support for a Kennedy bid among state chairmen amid ongoing pressure from Nixon and Romney in the GOP.

Pownal Sunday racing debate riles Vermont lawmakers
In Bennington briefs, Vermonters haggled over Sunday racing to boost state funds. Senator James Jeffords pushed a graduated 4 to 8 percent pari mutuel commission, while the House Ways and Means Committee moved a bill rushing Sunday wagering, with projected 1969 receipts at about 1.2 million. The measure aims to test Sunday wagering for a year and could be sent to a conference committee. Critics, including Sen. Loomis, argued blue laws are discriminatory and should be repealed only if Sunday racing is allowed. The chamber rejected the blue-law repeal amendment and debated broader rest provisions.
