Manchester Planners Eye New Municipal Building
Manchester planning officials consider a combined municipal building to house fire equipment and town offices on the flats between Center and Depot. Voters favored a firehouse bond, but the two thirds required failed by 65 votes, prompting talk of a single, larger building with a special town meeting after bids and planning. Revised drawing plans were to be prepared while bids are sought, with the next meeting to occur when drawings are ready. Attending were Selectmen Orrin Beattie Clyde Bryant Sr Christopher Swezey and Planning Commission members James Campbell and B F Wilcox Fire Chief Lyn Bourn Howard Ambrose George Heaslip and architect Fritz Dillmann.

New York Woodwind Quintet Delivers Polished Williams Hall Concert
In Chapin Hall Williams College, the New York Woodwind Quintet offered a finely balanced program. Hindemith’s Kleine Kammermusik opened with a stark, compact texture, then Beethoven’s Quintet in E Flat featured a blending piano and winds. The second half, Fine and Villa-Lobos works, showed lively dialogue among winds. The group’s unity stood out, though hall acoustics limited intimacy.
