Ben-Mont Union Rejects Management Offer In Wage Dispute
The Ben-Mont union Local 534 of the Printing Specialties and Paper Products Union unanimously rejected a three year contract with no first year raise and about 3 cents per hour in years two and three. Peter Tufo said members, about 150, favored continuing the strike and that a mediator may set up another meeting next week. The offer included union shop and extended hospital coverage, and a revised vacation policy, but required cutting top female wage from 1.51 to 1.25 for new hires. The international union says the demand includes a 10 cent hourly increase if other requests are met.
