U S Special Forces Camp A Shau Falls After Siege
In a two day battle Communist North Viet Nam regulars trapped Camp A Shau 375 miles northeast of Saigon. Only four Americans and 16 Montagnard and Nung tribesmen survived. Rescue helicopters evacuated the wounded amid heavy fire as the camp fell and rumors of a coup in Saigon swirled. Col William McKean announced the camp’s closure at 1745 hours.
