Master Plan Adopted by Bennington Voters in Record Turnout
Bennington voters elected two new selectmen and three new listers, expanding the board of listers to five. Republican J Duncan Campbell won the three year selectman post, with Fred H Baker Jr and Arthur D Taylor trailing. Democrat Gerald Cornell won the one year selectman seat. Independent Richard Sleeman captured the three year sister position, defeating Hamilton L Shields by 76 votes. Incumbent officials Mary Hodeck and Alma Langlois were reelected unopposed, with other winners including James Cross road commissioner and Norton Barber moderator. The Bennington Taxpayers Protective Association endorsed Sleeman Vail and Cornell, while Baker Bard Morse were among the defeated. Absentee ballots raised turnout, with results announced at 10:45 p.m.

Bennington Village will ask voters to approve a $24,000 water main extension for Putnam Memorial Hospital possibly at the March 18 floor meeting.
