Williams College finds high school record outpaces SAT scores
Williams College half way through a ten year admissions experiment shows students with strong high school records but average SATs fare better than peers with high SATs but weaker transcripts. The program divides 10 percent of entering freshmen into four groups based on SATs, grades, and extra curriculars to identify exceptional personal qualities. Early results suggest college success depends more on high school performance than College Board scores, notably for economically underprivileged applicants.
