House Pulls Switch On Hoff's Power Bill

Vermont House crushed Gov. Hoff's bid for low-cost Canadian power by 77 to 67 after an amendment sent the bill to a Legislative council study and created a five member panel to report by December 31, 1966 with a full report to the 1967 session. Hoff vowed to seek alternatives despite defeat and blamed powerful interests for blocking the plan to import Quebec hydroelectric power. The bill had cleared the Senate but was killed by a parliamentary move, likely ending any revival this session as adjournment looms March 12.
