Expanded Manchester budget meetings raise questions on police scope
At a pre-town meeting in Manchester, residents divided over an $82,530 police budget increase to fund eight officers and two cruisers, with critics arguing overstaffing for a 3,000-population town after the December shooting of Police Chief Dana L. Thompson. Proposals to use dogs, shifts, and 24 hour coverage sparked debate while officials defended current needs and cited rising workloads and seasonal population changes.
