Northern BC coast mission boat voyage photographed by Peter Chapman
Peter Chapman, former Banner reporter, sailed a year as a deckhand on the United Church of Canada’s M V Thomas Crosby V mission boat. The 80 foot steel vessel, crew of five, travels 10 knots along northern BC coast visiting about 50 ports. The letter describes a mix of primitive and modern life, with fishing as a lingering livelihood and old canneries falling into disrepair. The beauty of the coast lingers despite changes.
