Town Manager Harold R. Saunders and Selectman Gerald P. Morrissey promote the proposed 1975-76 budget of 1,899,184 as feasible during hard times. The plan covers 1,424,184 general fund and 475,000 highway fund, with the total voted on as a single Australian ballot.
The Vermont House passed a resolution to form a special seven member panel to study how judges are selected and re elected. The panel will include four House members and three senators, with one lawyer from each chamber. It aims to examine the flawed judicial selection process amid secrecy concerns without granting subpoena powers.
Capitol Hill report cards from Americans for Democratic Action show Vermont’s three member delegation more liberal in the 93rd Congress’s second session. Sen. George D. Aiken and Rep. Richard W. UPI reporting from Phnom Penh says rebels overran two government bases near Pochentong airport threatening the massive rice airlift supply. Gen. Sosthene Fernandez led a counterattack to retake Toul Leap and Ang Sdok as rockets struck the airport and city. U.S. airlifted rice, fuel, and munitions under daily shuttle from Saigon and Thailand, with plans for a 75,000 ton city stockpile by April 6 and an indefinite operation. An eight-member U.S. congressional delegation voiced concern over Saigon journalist arrests and weighed aid requests from President Ford.
Former Council of Economic Advisers chairman Arthur M. Okun told Congress there is no end in sight to the downturn and warned it could develop into a low mood with unemployment near 9 to 10 percent. He criticized delayed tax rebates and urged swift action totaling about $26 billion.
