A Thai International Airways Caravelle jet with about 80 aboard including 48 Americans crashed into Kowloon Bay during approach in Hong Kong. Rescue operations were underway as authorities reported casualties and possible missing passengers.
Commu nist China all but broke diplomatic relations with Burma today after three days of anti Chinese rioting in Rangoon. The Peking government refused to send back its ambassador, and issued demands to Gen Ne Win including public apology and protection for Chinese residents. Riots began over Mao badges, escalated to a 10,000 strong mob with 18 Chinese and six Burmese killed, dozens injured. martial law was eased as normal traffic returned to Rangoon.
Five motorists were treated for injuries at Putnam Memorial Hospital after a four car crash on U S 7 near Lee's Popcorn Stand south of the village. Mrs Lee Sullivan 22 was most seriously hurt possibly skull injuries. The others, Mrs Irah B Jones Ronald Brookman Ada Brookman and Leonard Duval sustained various injuries. The collision occurred at 645 am as Sullivan attempted to pass. Injured were taken to hospital by the Bennington Rescue Squad.
JERUSALEM United Press International Israelis moved to solidify control of the former Jordanian sector of Jerusalem ahead of a United Nations General Assembly move. Mayor Teddy Kollek praised reunification, noting unified city services, food flow, and open movement as barriers were removed and thousands flooded the old city in a carnival mood.

The three school systems plan to merge July 1 with integration of 11th and 17th grades starting in September.
