UVM Professor Parenti to Appeal Conviction

Burlington UPI reports University of Vermont professor Michael Parenti will appeal his Illinois conviction on charges tied to a May campus demonstration at Illinois. He received two years probation and a $250 fine last week and plans to file an appeal promptly under Illinois law. Parenti, at center of trustee disputes over his job, also expects contract renewal. His colleagues plan to meet the president to protest action denying a cost of living raise for Parenti.

Massachusetts Supreme Court Upheld No Fault Auto Insurance

The Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled the states first in the nation no fault auto insurance program constitutional. Justice Paul C. Reardon wrote the decision in Milton Pinnick a Boston postal worker in a Jan 3 1971 accident. Pinnick sought $1465 in damages including 650 wages 115 medical and 800 pain and suffering but damages under no fault were limited to 2000 from his own insurer. He challenged Chapter 670 arguing it deprived him of full recovery in tort.

House spurns Senate bill Dens Viet backing shrinks

In Washington UPI reports that Democratic support for Nixon Vietnam policy eroded in the House as 63 percent opposed the President on a test. The House rejected a Mansfield Senate amendment calling for withdrawal nine months after enactment with prisoners returned, 219 to 176, while negotiations aimed to reconcile draft extension bills.
