House unit approves solar device tax credit
The House Ways and Means Committee approved tax credits up to 2150 for solar and wind energy devices and up to 400 for home insulation and energy saving equipment. The plan backs 30 percent on the first 1500 and 20 percent on the next 8500 for solar and wind purchases made last April 20 through December 31, 1982. Insulation and other energy savers get 20 percent of the first 2000. A bid to strike this credit failed 20 to 17. Credits reduce taxes owed directly.
