Police narrowed the search to 23 barges after insecticide Thiodan spilled into the Rhine at Giesenheim between noon and 2 p.m. on June 18, killing about 40 million fish across a 200 mile stretch. Authorities say the exact barge is unknown and cargo details remain undisclosed.
President Nixon travels to the Canadian border to rededicate the St. Lawrence Seaway with Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. He revisits the 1959 dedication site at Massena New York, plans a plaque at St Lambert Lock and a Montreal tour, with a large presidential party and officials aboard.

Benjamin Collins, director, cites a $100000 grant from Astor Foundation and a $100000 contract with the National Institute of Mental Health. Additional talks seek a $100000 grant via Economic Opportunity for programs at University of Vermont, St Michael's College, and Castleton State College. Initiated last summer by ex Governor Hoff and ex Mayor Lindsay.
The Air Force awarded General Electric an $87 million contract to produce 68 MIRV re entry vehicles for 500 Minuteman 3 missiles. Rep. Moorhead accused the Pentagon of concealment while Nixon suggested a moratorium on MIRV tests. Senate members pressed for a mutual freeze as congressional funds were routed without clear notice.
