Reapportionment In Bay State Seen Minor
Massachusetts Attorney General Edward W. Brooke said that the Supreme Court ruling on reapportionment will have little effect on existing legislative boundaries in the state. He noted there is no reasonable mathematical ratio between population and voter registration, suggesting only minor adjustments may be needed in areas with low voter registration. Massachusetts bases districts on registered voters, not total population, a standard upheld by the court. The Senate last reapportioned in 1959 and the House in the prior year.
