Catholics Question Church Sex Teachings Sparks Debate
A four year study by the Catholic Theological Society of America reports growing lay rejection of church sex teachings and a minority of American priests willing to support the ban on birth control. It highlights shifts toward individual conscience and notes Vatican observers reference potential challenges to sexual morality. The report cites eighty five percent oppose birth control and forty three percent approve premarital sex for engaged couples. The study, "Human Sexuality New Directions in American Catholic Thought," is to be published by Paulist Press.
