First Atlantic salmon in 15 years captured at Holyoke Dam

HOLYOKE Mass The first Atlantic salmon in 15 years captured alive from the Connecticut River was taken Monday at the Holyoke Dam by Holyoke Water Power Co workers. George Miller spotted the 30 inch fish rising in the fish elevator, the same employee who saw the previous 15 year absence begin. A 36 inch male salmon captured at the river mouth earlier this spring died before transfer to Fish and Game officials. Biologists will determine the sex and origin of the Monday fish and whether it came from the 10,000 released from a Agawam brook in March 1973, noting the absence of a visible band on this specimen unlike the earlier spring fish at the river mouth.
