Acid rain endangers New England fisheries and forests
Researchers from Dartmouth Cornell and Yale say pollutants from industry and vehicles create highly acidic rain that stunts vegetation and kills fish in parts of the Northeast. In Hubbard Brook New Hampshire they found rain about 100 times as acidic as normal, with similar levels in Boston and nearby cities. Scientists caution while not proven, the link to emissions resembles the cigarette cancer analogy.

Official in doghouse for insubordination
Concord New Hampshire UPI report says Department of Resources and Economic Development commissioner George Gilman would not state if he will seek removal of Edward Bennett from his post as director of economic development. Most executive councilors would not disclose their vote. Bennett resisted resignation after being asked by Gov. Meldrim Thomson following criticisms of a proposed pulp mill. Several councilors urged Bennett to resign citing poor judgment and policy clashes. Bennett defended his stance and said he would not be bullied.
