Bennington Considers Tax Rates If Elementary Budget Passes
The Bennington School District board estimated that if voters approve the new elementary budget at the annual meeting, the district tax rate including Mt Anthony assessment will be 5.83. Town Treasurer Hogan Jr. provided figures showing total tax rates for residents across Bennington areas, with 7.32 for Bennington town residents, 8.46 for Bennington Village, and 6.82 for Old Bennington, noting 50 percent fair market value this year reduces rates. The 1966 totals are shown under this year’s system for comparison, with town 5.33, village 6.53, and Old Bennington 4.83. The 5.83 figure is based on a $1,706,828 money request, of which $1,211,697 was already approved as part of the Mt. Anthony Union High School District budget share. The remaining $495,049 covers elementary needs and union expenses after state aid.
