Father Gay Gives Up Gun Inheritance For Peace
Hartford priest Rev. John Curry Gay, co-pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Church in South Windsor, donated a family gun collection and other heirlooms to the Connecticut State Library. The rifles, flintlocks and swords, once prized by his grandfather Thomas Curry of Hartford and Colt Arms, were kept through generations after Civil War era ties. Gay, born 1929, recalls childhood pride in the weapons and notes St Francis would have preferred these items in a museum. He plans no poverty yet seeks to end the hoard of artifacts accumulated since 1872 through his grandfather.
