Runaway Locomotives Tear Across Kansas In Hi Speed Dash
A driverless pair of Santa Fe diesels roared 80 miles across five Kansas counties at about 90 mph before deputies derailed them near Kinsley. Rail crews reported a dust storm of exhaust as the engines sped from Hutchinson through Reno, Rice, and Barton counties to Garfield and Pawnee counties. No injuries were reported, and officials considered a head on collision before choosing the derailment to stop the runaway trains.
