Bennington Alum Wins Doris Humphrey Fellowship at Connecticut College
Kazuko Hirabayashi, a former modern dance teacher at Bennington College and Juilliard diploma holder, won the 1964 Doris Humphrey Fellowship. She will use studio space from July 5 to August 16 to develop a Rashomon inspired work and perform publicly. The award includes full tuition, room, board, and access to key faculty at the Connecticut College School of Dance.

Fire District 1 to discuss zoning changes at June meeting

Square Dancers Graduate After Do Si Do Ceremony
Thirty couples completed the 17 lesson DoSiDo 8s series at a candlelight graduation in Manchester Grange Hall. Roy Marsden taught the class with help from Bennington and Rutland square dance clubs. A square of candles symbolized friendship duty democracy and fun. Diplo mas were awarded and prizes given as the club’s founders and members were named. Open dances begin July 2 at the Grange Hall with lessons starting in early October.

Two six week courses start Monday at 9 a.m. at Burr and Burton Seminary. Introductory typing taught by assistant principal Paul H. Bullock runs weekdays 9 to 10:30 until July 30, open to high school students and adults with eight seats left. High School Writing led by Peter Schoffstall meets 9 a.m. Mondays through Wednesdays for three hours until July 28, open to adults and students who have completed Grade 8, with possible half fee for monitors.
