Moose Bike Safety Day At Bennington Club
The Bennington Moose Club hosted its annual bicycle safety program on Main Street attracting over 50 youngsters. State Police Corporal Paul Huntley and Donald Greenslet spoke on bike safety while Paul Walton and Edward Austin from the Bennington Rescue Squad offered first aid tips. Moose members repaired bikes, films on safety were shown, and refreshments followed. Louis A. Boutin chaired the event, a 20 year tradition.

Miss Caroline Darlington of the Women's Auxiliary of Putnam Memorial Hospital distributed four $100 scholarships at Mount Anthony Union High School on awards night to Marlene Blake Denise M Boutin Linda M Daugherty and Alicia Hysek. The graduates plan nursing or related studies. Susan Pineau a 1971 School of Nursing graduate at Baptist Hospital received another award for continuing nursing education at Lebanon Valley College.

Bennington area Guardsmen from Co C 2nd Battalion 172nd Armor join 1,700 Vermonters for two weeks of field training at Camp Drum. Lt Col Edwin Barrett leads the unit. Capt Robert E Houle commands the company from Bennington. They live in the field, use tank ranges, field kitchens, and pup tents, with a mid training break before a final week. The post, once Pine Camp, spans thousands of acres in the St Lawrence Valley and hosts Vermont troops annually since 1890.

Miss Eileen M. Kinney of Bennington graduated Sunday from the Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Troy. She is the daughter of Mrs. Francis Kinney and the late Mr. Kinney, with prior leadership roles in student council and Newman Club. Kinney will join Putnam Memorial Hospital after July.
