Mitchell moves to halt Times top secret Vietnam study

Attorney General John Mitchell said the Justice Department would seek a temporary restraining order in New York to stop The New York Times from publishing top secret Defense Department materials on the Vietnam War. The action targets 47 volumes titled History of U.S. Decision Making on Vietnam Policy and a Volume on the Gulf of Tonkin incident, asserting publication would cause irreparable injury to national defense. The Times and executives vowed to continue publication, citing public interest, while the government cites Espionage Act provisions and potential penalties.

Niagara Mohawk Plans Second Nuclear Plant at Nine Mile Point

Niagara Mohawk Power announced plans to build a second nuclear generating unit at Nine Mile Point, six miles east of Oswego, to meet upstate power needs with emphasis on preservation, reliability, and economy.
