Montpelier Vermont House Speaker Franklin S. Billings Jr predicts Senate reapportionment priority plans will reach House action by Wednesday and the House would pass them without question. He asserts legislative reapportionment, the central issue of the 1965 session, will be accomplished almost two weeks early.
Vermont lawmakers rejected a measure to permit Fourth of July fireworks sales in a 131 to 66 vote. Rep Cornelius Granai of Barre led the push, arguing patriotism fades with the holiday while opponents noted local displays in Washington County. The debate touched on timing with a federal court deadline and broader school funding questions.
Three people were hospitalized after a head-on collision on U S 7 near the Peaceful Valley Restaurant. None of the injuries are critical. Drivers Donna Burdick and Kevin St John were involved, with passengers Dorothy Lambert Jacqueline Vince and two others treated for cuts and bruises.
Duane Earl Pope, 22, accused of killing three and wounding a fourth in a Nebraska bank raid, surrendered Friday in Kansas City Missouri. Fire from Brattleboro engulfed two 60 by 60 foot buildings at Book Press Co on Putney Road. Firemen from Hinsdale and Keene New Hampshire and Greenfield Massachusetts aided Brattleboro crews for over four hours. The main plant and a third building were saved with no injuries reported. Officials expect heavy monetary loss from damaged supplies and workshop area. cause not determined.

Hallie Sausville daughter of Harold and Mrs Sausville North Bennington was the top senior at Bennington Catholic High School senior class night. She won highest honors and the valedictory speech plus two athletic awards and six scholarships aiding her freshman year at Stonehill College. Barry E. Griffith son of Mr and Mrs Charles Griffith North Bennington was close behind with highest honors the salutatory address five scholarships the student council award two scholastic and athletic awards and plans to attend Dartmouth College next year.
A guerrilla training camp and a cache of dynamite and blasting caps were uncovered within 25 miles of Washington. FBI agents led state troopers and Prince William County deputies to the site on U S Route 1 near Woodbridge. Army demolition teams destroyed the explosives. The raiders, 12 to 15 members, trained in guerrilla tactics centered in California and the Midwest. The discovery marks the first Minuteman unit found on the East Coast.
