Vermont towns unite to test Miller Formula in court
Representatives from 21 Vermont towns backed a lawsuit to challenge the Miller Formula for state aid to education at a Newfane meeting. Thirteen towns pledged 100 each for legal costs. Brattleboro attorney A Luke Crispe argued the system violates both state and federal constitutions by tying aid to land value. The group plans regional meetings and seeks broader county representation as the suit proceeds.

Vermont maple syrup crop to fall about 21 percent
Vermont officials expect the 1971 maple syrup crop to yield about 240000 gallons, a decline from last year, while the quality of syrup produced is said to be better. The Agriculture Department launched a study to explain the drop as taps are similar, prices have risen, and producers face financial strain with higher retail costs.
