Judges to rule on Vermont prisoner transfer law

A three judge panel of the U S District Court of Vermont heard arguments in Brattleboro on a constitutional challenge to a state law allowing transfer of certain inmates to federal maximum security facilities. Vermont Yankee Reactor Shut Down By Transformer Failure

Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Corp. may face eight months before a new start-up transformer is built for its Vernon plant after a $120,000 transformer failed. spokesman Larry Keyes said replacement could allow the plant to return to service in about five days once installed, while NRC ordered vibration checks on reactor components delayed until operation resumes and similar inspections occur at ten other boiling water reactors nationwide.

Unemployment tops 9 percent in May for first time since 1941
