Sirhan Described as a Fanatic To Be Charged with Murder

Sirhan B Sirhan a 24 year old Jordanian refugee described as a fanatic faces murder charges for the slaying of Senator Robert F Kennedy. He was seized moments after Kennedy fell and is held under tight security at a Los Angeles County Jail near the hospital where Kennedy died. A health food store owner and neighbors describe Sirhan as intelligent and friendly yet driven by religious and political zeal and a long standing hatred of Israel. The mayor reported a diary entry predicting Kennedy's assassination before June 5 1968 and noted supporting comments about Nasser and critical views on Kennedy on Vietnam and aid to Israel. Sirhan possessed a .22 caliber pistol at arrest and is said to have fled Jordan as a child. Justice Department records show he and his family of eight Jordanians were admitted for permanent residence but none naturalized.
