Vermont trout growth limited by high water observing early fry
Vermont Fish and Game biologist Richard Biggins reports that recent high water slowed growth rate studies for trout in southern Vermont's Battenkil river system. Despite this, late February brook trout fry emerged from gravel nests, aided by cool groundwater and springs. Brown and brook trout populations vary by headwaters and downstream waters. The Battenkil remains among top trout rivers in the East, with other Vermont rivers offering similar challenges.
