Twenty Acres of Harvest and the Toll of Lumbering
In a memoir style narrative, the author recalls an attempted lumbering project to salvage income from a forest. Uncle Walter Leo and Charles cut trees to open views, but the operation faced ethical and emotional conflict as old maples and beech fell. A lumbering boss advocates selective cutting, while the narrator mourns loss yet notes fresh firewood, new trails, and eventual forest recovery inching toward regrowth.
