Pownal Racetrack Shuns Off Track Betting Plan
At a House Ways and Means Committee meeting Green Mountain Race Track officials said there is no benefit to adding off-track betting or a northern Vermont track. General Manager Vincent Bartino and President John Rooney argued a new track would divert current revenue, while a cheaper dog track would hurt Pownal. Canadian racing from Blue Banner was cited as already robust. Lottery plans drew little support.
